How To Dress Up A Suit For Work

Ah...the black suit. A workplace staple....not a runway staple.

If you are in a job like mine, you are probably expected to wear a suit to work everyday.
There are benefits to suits:

  • You are less likely to come home to a pile of clothes on your bed from trying on and rejecting multiple outfits (admit it, it happens on a pretty regular basis)
  • You can save at least 10 minutes every morning contemplating what to wear….less choices.
  • They usually hold their shape pretty well so you can get a few uses before taking them to the dry cleaner
  • You look sharp. Real sharp. Nobody messes with a woman in a good suit.

You’ll be well-suited for any work affair with this versatile black Theora Straight. http://www.elietahari.com/womens-designer-clothing/womens-pants/theora-straight-pants/E3015212,default,pd.html?dwvar_E3015212_color=001=25=new-women-new_arrivals=new-women-new_arrivals

But they are also boring if you don't work to dress them up.

Here are some tips on dressing up your suit. Think professional and chic.

1. Jazz it up with a great jacket.
Your jacket doesn't always have to match the bottoms. This is a great way to make pieces go farther--mixing and matching your grey pants with your black jacket and vice versa gives you 4 work outfits instead of two.

I like to buy structured, but fun jackets to add some of my personal style to my suits. My personal favorites are textured/tweed jackets and blazers with a pop of color.

2. Your top says everything about you.
The shell under your jacket is really the only place you can express yourself. Get creative--my favorites are peplum, lace, and any silky-bright top from JCrew or Kate Spade.

3. Accessorize!

Suits are boring, so you need to dress it up the right way. Wear a bold necklace, rock some cute shoes, and your bag is an important part of your outfit since it's on the outside!
Make it count.
